How often is the best time to wash your hair?

How often should I wash my hair? I believe this is a problem that plagues many people.  If I don’t wash it for a day, the top of my head will be shiny. If I wash it frequently, I am afraid that it will become oilier.

So, how often do I wash my hair to be scientific and healthy?

Each person’s specific situation is different, and the frequency of shampooing should be determined by the season and hair quality.

People with oily hair

If you are used to washing your hair every day, or if you will secrete too much oil without washing, you can shampoo once a day.

But don’t use shampoo or conditioner every time you wash your hair. It is recommended to rinse with clean water every other day. This can remove stains on the hair and scalp, but will not increase the secretion of oil.

People with Normal or dry hair

The frequency of hair cleaning can be adjusted to 3 to 4 times a week. Shampoo + conditioner, double care effect is good.

How to wash your hair correctly?

Shampoo is important

Hair is oily: It is recommended to use products with strong cleaning ability instead of moisturizing or repairing products.

Hair is generally oily: only use a shampoo that has the dual effects of hair care and oil control.

Very little oil or even dryness: choose products with nourishing effects and strong hair care functions.

Scalp itching and dandruff: If you have dandruff or even scalp itching at the same time, choose products that contain effective anti-fungal ingredients.

Things you should never do when washing your hair

Wash without combing

When washing your hair, it is very important to wash your scalp. If you rinse directly, the dust and dirt on the scalp will adhere to it, and it will not be thoroughly cleaned.

Suggestion: Before shampooing, comb your hair with a wide-tooth, round-headed comb, and then rinse with water. Not only can you reduce the amount of shampoo, but it can also reduce the irritation to the scalp.

Shaving the scalp with nails

Many people find it very comfortable to scratch the scalp with their nails when washing their hair. As everyone knows, there are many bacteria hidden in the nails. Once the scalp is scratched, it is easy to induce skin diseases such as infection and folliculitis.

Suggestion: When washing your hair, draw a circle and gently rub the scalp with your fingertips to smooth the hair.

Apply shampoo when your hair is not wet

Apply shampoo as soon as the hair is soaked. This will cause incomplete washing or knotting, leaving dirt and dandruff in the hair.

Suggestion: Rinse for about 1 minute before applying shampoo.

Shampoo directly on the head

Many people ask for quickness and save trouble, so they just apply shampoo to their hair. Since the shampoo does not have sufficient contact with water and directly contacts the scalp without saponification, it will not only irritate the scalp but may also cause abnormal hair loss in the long term.

Suggestion: Pour the shampoo into the palm of your hand, add water to foam and apply it to your hair. Not only will the foam be rich, but the hair will also be washed more cleanly.

Apply the conditioner to the scalp

Conditioner is a cleaning product specifically for hair. If it is applied to the scalp, the chemicals in it can easily block the hair follicles and cause hair loss and other problems.

Suggestion: Apply the conditioner at least 1 to 2 cm away from the scalp, and apply it to the tips of the hair along with the ears.

Rinse the hair whirl with a strong jet of water

Hair spin is the “core zone” where the hair and the scalp are most closely connected. If a strong water jet is used for washing, it is easy to damage the scalp, accelerate hair fall, and even cause alopecia areata.

Suggestion: When washing your hair, the water flow should be slow, and the washing time should not be too long for hair swirling and sparse hair.

Wash your hair with hot water

Many people who have a lot of dandruff and itchy scalp like to wash their hair with higher temperature water, and think that the effect of anti-dandruff and anti-itch is better. In fact, too high water temperature can easily take away too much oil in the scalp, which will not only damage the hair but also make the scalp oily and cause dandruff more serious.

Suggestion: The water temperature for washing hair should be 40℃.

Use the hairdryer directly after washing

In order to dry the hair quickly, some people use a hairdryer directly after washing their hair. This will damage the hair scales, cause moisture loss, and make the hair yellow and dry.

Recommendation: Let it dry naturally after shampooing. If you must blow-dry as soon as possible, it is best to choose cold air to reduce damage and keep the hairdryer about 15 cm away from the hair.

Other Tips

1. Don’t use too irritating shampoo

This varies from person to person. After washing your hair, you feel that your hair is itchy, astringent, and dry. It means that this shampoo is too alkaline for you and you need to change to a softer one.

2. Don’t use too much shampoo

The problem of shampoo residue needs to be paid attention to. If you use a lot of shampoos every day, some shampoo may be left on the scalp every day, which will cause considerable damage to the hair over time.

3. Don’t comb your hair and sleep with wet hair

When the hair is wet, the hair scales are open. At this time, the hair is very fragile and intolerant of friction. If you comb your hair and sleep at this time, the hair scales will be horrible and the hair loss will obviously increase.

4. Wash your hair less during illness and menstruation

During this period, people’s body resistance is generally poor. Although shampooing itself does not make people sick, the water on the scalp will absorb a lot of heat when it evaporates. If it is not handled properly, it will easily cause headaches and colds.
