According to the type of forklift

A single plastic pallet is the best choice if the forklift is a manual hydraulic forklift or a hybrid mechanical and manual hydraulic forklift.

Polyethylene (PE) vs Polypropylene (PP)

PP and PE are both important raw materials for plastic pallets. So which one is better for pallets?


PP

Also known as polypropylene, it is a semicrystalline thermoplastic.

It has high impact resistance, mechanical sub-strong, resistance to a variety of organic solvents, and acid-base corrosion.

Polypropylene is mainly used in the production of plastic pallets, plastic tables and chairs, plastic trash cans, plastic film, and so on.


PE (HDPE)

Choose the Load Capacity of Plastic Pallets

Consider the main parameter

Static Load

3. Bottom deck bending tests

The purpose of this test is to determine the strength and stiffness of the bottom deck between block or stingers when handling on twin rack conveyors or narrow span beam rack supports.

4. Stacking test

The purpose of this test is to determine the ability of the pallet top and bottom decks to withstand the local effects of widely varying payloads on sub spans of decks between blocks and stringers in a block-stacking situation.

5. Compression tests for blocks or stringers

The purpose of this test is to determine the compression stiffness and strength of the blocks or stringers of the pallet.

6. Fork lifting tests

The limiting condition of use for non-rackable and non-stackable single or double-deck pallets is the bending of the pallet on fork arm supports under the top deck of the pallet. With a forklift test, we can measure the bending strength and bending stiffness.

7. Static airbag bending test

The purpose of this form of bending test is to simulate, as near as practically feasible, certain load applications as commonly encountered in the field.

8. Static wing pallet bending test

The purpose of these tests is to determine the bending strength and the bending stiffness of winged pallets during lifting with slings.

9. Static bending test

How are plastic pallets made?

High-Pressure Injection Molding

Structural Foam Molding

This process requires less raw material and also creates plastic with a higher strength-to-weight ratio. The mold itself is less expensive than those for high-pressure injection molding.

Thermoforming

The most common thermoformed pallet anyone is likely to see is a U.S. Postal Service pallet, but they are used in many supermarkets, too. Thermoforming is a two-step process. It begins with heating plastic pellets, typically polyethylene, to create an extruded plastic sheet of the desired thickness. Then, either one or two sheets are formed against molds as the air between the mold and the sheet is evacuated. Thermoforming molds are substantially cheaper than injection molds, but cycle times are slower.

A thermoformed plastic pallet is typically very lightweight and durable. Twin-sheet thermoforms pallets are hollow, which makes them susceptible to water retention if punctured and exposed to rain. Normally this is not an issue because they usually are kept undercover.

Compression Molding

Compression molding is another tried and true method of making plastic pallets and molded pallets made of other materials, such as wood chips and resin. The two-piece molds are loaded with material manually, robotically, or through extruders. Once loaded, a press forces the mold closed, and pressure forces the material to fill the mold cavity.

In the compression molding process, many different types of recycled materials are used, including various plastics, rubber, synthetic resins, and other recycled waste products.

Rotational Molding

The rotational molding process dates back to the early 1970s. It begins with granular or powdered plastic material loaded into a shell-like mold. The mold is heated and rotated in two planes perpendicular to each other. This helps distribute and fuse the material to the mold.

The molds for rotational molding are usually cheaper than for other processes. The materials most commonly used to manufacture rotationally molded pallets are linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and cross-linked polyethylene.

Profile Extrusion

Profile extruded pallets look very similar to wooden pallets and are constructed similarly. The raw material is melted and then forced through an extruder. After cooling, the extruded material is cut to size like lumber and fastened with nails, screws, glue, or heat welds.

Industrial re-grind and post-consumer recycled material can be used to keep costs down, and the addition of wood fiber or other material to the extruded profile can add stiffness and help reduce.
